Heftige Regenfälle gingen in den letzten drei Wochen über Teilen Tanzanias nieder. Ganze Bezirke und Gemeinden wurden von schweren Überschwemmungen heimgesucht, tausende wurden dazu gezwungen ihre Heimat zu verlassen. Der Bezirk Kilosa wurde überschwemmt als der Fluss Mkondoa über seine Ufer trat und die Stadt Kilosa unter Wasser setzte. 23.980 Einwohner verloren ihre Wohnungen. In Dodoma, Kongwa und Mpwapa kam es ebenfalls zu Überschwemmungen die über 19.000 Menschen betreffen.
The Austrian Red Cross has deployed three ERU trained WatSan Specialists to support the mobilization ofthe WatSan Kit 10 deployed from the International Federation warehouse. One WatSan RDRT member from the Uganda Red Cross Society will join them in setting up and operating the Kit 10 in Kilosa District. The Spanish Red Cross, through its Country Office, is making EUR 15,000 available to the National Society to support transportation needs.
The French Red Cross’ Platform for Regional Intervention in the Indian Ocean (PIROI) based in Reunion has also made resources available to support the operation and is on standby to mobilize resources.
